Shop Birthday Ramblings

So l have been reflecting a lot…that happens after 20 years of trading.

When starting the business , l received some really good advice.

Have a business plan…list everything you want to do even the most ridiculous as it helps you put on paper what your thinking.

Concentrate on the things that you love the most and get that right and then move to the next task, its difficult to get it all done at once, even though you want to do it all.

I did an extensive business plan in point form…….and took much pleasure in crossing items off the list.

Even 20 years on , there are many things l want to do in the shop……

I always love changing around the shop, so lm planning bigger changes, well thats today it will change tomorrow…

I still love what l do…funny a customer asked me the other day when will l finish……thats a weird question l thought… l replied with who knows and l dont have to make any decisions, maybe lm looking old…..

I reflect on the people l have met and funnily enough the ones that have passed away….

And from the later, I remember the first day l reopened after moving shops and the lovely Julie came in with the hugest bunch of flowers, along with a vase , she then arranged the flowers and asked me where to put them….it was great as l was busy and the flowers would not have had the attention they needed if it wasnt for Julie.   She also gave me an orchid in a pot which l still have today in the shop.

Jenny l met in the shop for the first time, she was making lots of quilts so she was in at least once a week, l said gee her grandkids were lucky to be getting the quilts. In each of the quilts she put a piece of chenille from her mothers bedspread.

What l didnt know was that Jenny had a brain tumor…….she had said that she enjoyed the fact that l didnt know she was sick and treated her the same as everyone else……..

There are many more that have impacted my life and business….so this is a nod to them, you know who you are….       .thankyou.

Well of course, l also have a family…and they have been very supportive and have had to “do without” me for the sake of the business.

So the grandchildren tally is 9…8 boys and 1 girl          March we will welcome another little bundle to make and even 10.

I am not up to date with quilt giving to the “grandies”….the early ones given are now no longer age appropriate… such a pity that more need to be made….

Anyway thats enough for this session.

Cheers

Mary
