May Days

Since my last post “Our Baby Jack” has arrived….all safe and sound…apart from a fair bit of waiting, as Jack decided that he was not wanting to come out and was quite happy to stay put.

So lovely to see how happy James and Leanne are, not to mention the extended family  yes and also the “grandies”.

Thankyou for all of your good wishes…….a new era has begun in our household.

It would be also remiss of me not to thank all of the well wishes, sent after James rather interesting accident, after taking a mark in the Richmond game.  So to report all is fixed….every nut/ball joke has been used and continues to be used..and there are no photos circulating of the injury…..he doesnt walk funny…..he didnt compare it to childbirth…that was edited…….and he is enjoying his time on the sidelines with Leanne and Baby Jack.

So in a nutshell……woops there it goes again…..

The colder weather has hit so its time to be knitting and crocheting, l am stocking a reasonable variety of wool at the moment.   Patons Totem, Country Naturals, Country Colour, California, Jet 12 ply, Mohair, Sirdar Sublime, Bamboo.

So pop in and have a look……

001jpgMy knitted blanket, was made from Country Naturals.

003jpgZauberball is also proving to be popular, so l have a nice selection of this wool.

005jpgWhile stock lasts l have these great Packs called Top This, its a beanie to knit that has a topper of a small animal for the pompom they are great and very easy to knit at $17 a ball quite the bargain.  There are 12 toppers to choose from.

004jpgBandana is also on the shelves now…the usual bright and colourful collection we come to expect from Me and Me Sisters.

010jpgAnd last but not least  Irene Blancks First Book has been released  “Focus on Applique”.  Its is wonderful, lots of great patterns, the book is beautifully set out, the colour reproduction is perfect so it basically ticks all of the boxes.

We will be having  a book signing on Saturday 27 June  times to be sorted yet…so stay posted…Book orders are being taken at the moment, so if you definately want the book order now.  The stock will be here shortly.

Cheers Mary

United Stitches by Rosalie Quinlan

You would have been hiding under a rock, not to have heard anything about Rosalie Quinlans new stitch and swap program called United Stitches.

A very new concept so briefly  there are 32 stitcheries which can make up a quilt.   In the individual stitchery pack numbered 3-32 there are 2 preprinted stitcheries, a stitchery guide and 2 swaps cards of the design.  To get started there is a “starter pack” which contains no 1 and 2 stitcheries, pre-printed linen, stitchery guide and 2 swap cards,  quilt pattern, template and United Stitches tin.

The idea is to stitch and swap………simple… this project can be worked with a friend, the sticheries can be given as a gift, you can make 2 quilts  the ideas are limitless.

Creative Abundance the distributors, have developed a facebook page for United Stitches so you can get a lot more ideas from that site or maybe find someone to share with you.

So anyway  l have the program available at the shop…..you purchase several different ways.

Full kit,  Full Block of the Month( inc starter pack, stitcheries)  11 months.  Odds and Evens Block of the Month  (starter pack purchased sep) 5 months, Odds full purchase, Evens Full Purchase, Starter Pack seperate purchase

If this sounds confusing l can talk you through it.  So its ready to go…..Starter Packs now available  oops l forgot you can also purchase the stitcheries as individuals and the tins…….

001jpgSo in amongest all the Stitchery bits  this fabric turned up.

002jpgDaysail by Bonnie and Camille

003jpgPetite Wovens  in red……..

Cheers Mary

PS: No threads are included but l have a DMC conversion done as the program uses Cosmos threads.

Tillies Garden Block of the Month

At last l have finally finished the shop sample of Tillies Garden , a Block of the Month.

I enjoyed doing it as it is a combo of applique and machine piecing……..

The fabrics l have used in the Sample Quilt will be the same that you get if you join the BOM.

The cost is $28.00 per month for 10 months.

003jpgMore fabric collection arrived:

001jpgVictoria Violets.. repro.

002jpgAunt Grace  Simple Sampler  1930s collection.

009jpgand literally on the shelf    Fresh Air by American Jane.

I mentioned at the beginning of the month Homespuns new BOM China Shop using Kaffe Fassett fabric, which l have in store at the moment.   I only have limited stock so if you are thinking about doing the BOM you need to get onto it.

You can subscribe to the magazine for the duration on the BOM if you want…do this directly with Homespun.

006jpgUnited Stitches by Rosalie Quinlan will also be available next week  at the shop.

I am just sorting out different ways that you can do it…

008jpgand Jodie Carleton is at it again….another Creative Card  Birdshouse…

Cheers Mary

Homespun Kaffe Fassett BOM is in.

001jpgFor those readers of Homespun, it would be no news for you that they have a new Block of the Month running. A delightful quilt using Kaffe Fassett fabric.  Here is the fabric that is used in quilt.

The fabric is sold as a complete lot, (not per month)  the cost is $345.00.  This way you are guaranteed to have all of the same dye lots, and you wont miss out,  if the stock from the Distributor runs out.

You may layby the box, but unfortunatley you cannot take from it, until the box is paid in full.

I have limited stock available.

002jpgThe Linen Cupboard has finally arrived, a collection of fabric by Emma Jansen  (ex Ballarat Patchwork).  It is fresh and bright, so lets get the imagination going……

003jpgIrene Blanck has also been busy, she has finally done the pattern (EyeCandy Card) for Flowering Snowball.  This quilt uses Charm Squares so its quite a quick one.

Irenes Class on Saturday 21 March has a couple of vacancies if you are interested.   Then its off to France for Irene for the Quiltmania launch of her new book oh yes and that little exhibition that Quiltmania Run…..lol…

Irene will be back at the shop in June with her new book, and we will be having a hero worship day for her (book signing) at the shop.  So stay posted for those details.

A new Block of the Month  Birds in Paradise will also be released soon  and l will be featuring that in the shop.  (woop woop)

004jpgNew to my shop classes is Pattern Making -Skirts.

Danni Maclean will be running this course , 5 sessions over a 2 month period.  Pictured is a skirt she just whipped up using my patchwork fabrics,  the unfortunate thing about the skirt is that its not my size, but it just shows you what can be done with patchwork fabrics.

The course at the moment is fully booked but l am hoping that the pattern making classes will extend to tops, dresses and pants. (l havent told Danni this yet).

So why l am mentioning this is if you are interested at all in Pattern Making leave you name and phone number at the shop, as the more interest there is the more chance there is of having the classes.

Okay thats enough..for this post…

Cheers Mary

2015 my 10th year of trading..

Sorry for the lack of blogging but sorry life got in the way……..

The rap sheet for 2014 has been great and quite satisfying, the shop has continued to grow l never seem to have enough time to get everything done , but l am not alone there.

So the things I have learnt from 2014:

1. do not  make my “work to be done ” list huge and be realistic

2.not every collection needs something made for it.

3. Stick with my philosophy, if l dont like it dont buy it……..

4.Continue moving the shop around, it makes great conversation and drives my shop girls mad…….

5. Acknowledge that l am not super woman so when one is sick and cannot speak, its time to do something about it.

6. Get as much free labour from my kids as possible ( pay back time.)

7. Continue to come up with odd jobs for the husband as he loves it.!!!!!!

8. Plan a holiday early or maybe just plan to have one.

9. And last but not least continue to enjoy my shop…….

So this year 2015 will be  my 10th year of trading, a pretty good milestone l think.  It only seems like yesterday l started,  a few hurdles along the way but we all need them to keep it real.  Getting rid of the cobwebs has a great feeling of satisfaction.

So as my camera has died there are no new pics…….so happy 2015 and look forward to another 10 years  (gee l’ll be old then).

Cheers Mary

008jpg

PS: I have lots of different classes this year, Gail Pan will be in” the Da house”  along with Rae Telfer and Trish Harper.

Sale week summary

Well,  the carpet was worn out with the traffic generated by the sale, thankyou to all that came over the week and l am sure that you got lots of bargains.  It was great as lots of bolts were moved on which has left room for more fresh new fabric and of course Christmas fabric.

The Macedon Ranges Spinners and Fibre Group had their display and sale in the classroom on Friday and Saturday, a group of very talented ladies who sat spinning , knattering and knitting,  all that visited were impressed with the standards and the talent involved.  It was so lovely to purchase a  hand spun and dyed and knitted  cardigan  , l was so impressed with how soft the cardigan was and a very reasonable price.                                                                                     The irony behind the days was the outside temperature,  warm, but hey this is Melbourne, and weather doesnt deter a good spinner  or knitter for that matter.

PicMonkey Collage

So here are a couple of pics from after the display.  We will be having another display and sale next year so l will keep you posted with the dates.

Its that time of year when l bring out the Christmas bits,

005jpg

So this is 2014’s Christmas quilt for the shop, a most enjoyable and easy one to do.  Machine appliques circles onto various rectangular Christmas backgrounds.  The circle fabrics are quite bright and interesting  so all good…….

006jpg

This pic shows you some of the fabric that l used, it is on sale in the shop now………….

007jpg

A double wedding ring table runner was also made to display The Christmas French General range…………and at last look there wasnt a whole lot left of the fabric……

I will keep you posted on the other Christmas bits that l have done, and the ranges that l have so until the next post hoo roo.

Cheers Mary

So thankyou Lisa , l will look after it.

008jpg

I finished off this orange and lime quilt using Riley Blake charm squares some white homespun and l handquilted it using cotton perle thread, so l was very plesaed with it.
